Chapter 10. I think someone's Spiked the punch
Buffy and Angel walked around the corner heading for Willie's bar, Angel remembered that Spike had said this was where his contact would be.
"Well this is the last place I can think of, we've tried the college and all of the other bars around." Angel spoke as he pushed open the door.
"Oh god."
Angel wheeled back from the site that greeted them a man lay slumped over the bar his neck at an angle that was impossible. He felt his stomach churn, he may have spent the past few days fighting the dark forces side by side with Buffy and he had seen a lot of strange things. However so far he had yet to see a dead body and he certainly wasn't ready for it. Nausea washed over him and he found himself heaving as the stench invaded his nasal cavity.
"We need to find out who did this and we need to find Spike I don't think he's safe if he was here something could have happened to him." Buffy said as she picked up the phone in the corner and dialled the emergency service, something she had done often over the past five years.
"Angel we need to go we need to find Spike." Buffy said
"I know," Angel replied
"It's just…."
Angel leant over and heaved again, the stench was just too much and this body had only been there for an hour at the most, but there was so much blood the neck had virtually severed off of the body.
"I know Angel but we've got to go the medical services will be here in a second we'll wait outside for them then we need to go."
Buffy opened the door of the bar and walked out Angel following closely behind her. The fresh air was like heaven to Angel it washed away all of the evil and death that had been present in the dark smoky bar.
Soon the Ambulance and police came and got about their business, the police had a few questions for Buffy and Angel. They were finished in around 10 minutes and left to continue their search for Spike.
"I hope the others are having better luck than we are." Buffy pondered out loud as Angel took her hand and held it tightly.
She was shocked at how innocent he was she had known him for just over a week now and so far she had only seen the destroyer side of him outside and the loving caring man he really was when they were alone at his house. It had never even occurred to her that Angel had never before seen a corpse.
"Lets hope." Angel smiled as they rounded the corner.
" I think I've got something." Giles exclaimed as he jumped up out of his seat.
"There is a reference to a ancient sword that was buried in a crypt here in Sunnydale where nobody would care to look." Giles finished as he grabbed the phone receiver.
"Does Buffy have her beeping thing with her?"
"What's going on?" Xander asked as he walked back into the library carrying the rations. He was met with scenes of chaos, Willow was scribbling down notes from a book, Oz was over her shoulder correcting her every now and again in his usual manner. The funniest of all however was Giles who was stood in the corner screaming at the phone.
"Whoa there G-man you need to dial the number first." Xander chuckled as he put the doughnuts on the table.
"Very funny Xander and don't call me that, we have to get hold of Buffy I think I've found the sword." Giles finished and turned back to the phone dialling in Buffy's cell number again.
"Got it!" Willow said jumping up.
"It's in the south sector of the Van Strausen crypt."
"Oh I know where that is." A voice said from the open doors
The whole group spun around to see Buffy and Angel stood at the door.
"What do we know guys?" Angel asked hopefully looking around to see if Spike had come back already.
"We have the location of the Sword," Giles smiled as he replaced the receiver.
"What information did your friend get?" Giles asked as he led Buffy and Angel over to the table where Willow's notes lay.
"There's a problem there we couldn't find him. He was supposed to be at Willie's Place a bar in the centre of town but when we got there the barkeeper was dead and Spike wasn't there." Buffy finished.
Giles rubbed his thumb and forefinger over the ridge of his nose in deep thought. Was it possible that Spike could have done this, they didn't really know anything about him or Angel for that matter. Still there were more important issues at this moment in time.
"Well we'll have to sort that out as soon as possible but we have more pressing business we must go and get the sword before this Knight does or we are in very big trouble." Giles finished as he grabbed his coat and was followed out of his office by the rest of the group.
The Van Strausen Crypt.
"We have it!" A man shouted.
"It amazing it draws you in I must have it!" Another man cried pushing the people gathered around to the floor. He quickly grasped the handle of the golden sword.
"Ahhh Ugghh!" The man screamed as the sword powerful magic run through his body judging whether or not he was worthy of carrying such power. The sword decided not, the man slumped to the ground his Body burned to a crisp.
"Which one of you is worthy!" A voice of no source boomed through the crypt.
"I am!" Spike stepped forward out of the mass of people that were gathered in the crypt, Morgan following slowly behind him, the essence of the Knight swirling through the air above the gathered forces of evil..
Slowly Spike pulled the sword out from the rock it was encased in, it slipped out easily the power in it coursed through Spike's veins he was being blessed. Holding up the Sword he felt the power of the Knight fly through it. Dropping the sword he was thrown back against the wall. Slowly the essence that had floated around the crypt took shape. It held out the sword. Took physical form and so began the path to ultimate destruction. Everything was in place, the Knight was whole all they needed now was the Full moon.
