They came for him one winter's night.
Arrested, he was bound.
They said there'd been a robbery,
His pistol had been found
There was a loud banging on the door and an order to open the door. Angel shook his sleepy head and got out of bed. Who on earth could be at the door at this time of night?! He pulled on pants and after rubbing his eyes again, he opened the door.
Before Angel could ask what was going on, his hands were bound behind his back and he was escorted to the car.
“What’s going on?!’ Angel wanted to know angrily.
“You’ve been arrested,” the police officer explained.
“I get that,” Angel gritted out. “What for?”
“Last night there’s been a robbery,” another officer explained while pushing Angel into the car. “Your pistol has been found on the place of the scene.”
They marched him to the station house,
He waited for the dawn.
And as they led him to the dock,
He knew that he'd been wronged.
"You stand accused of robbery,"
He heard the bailiff say.
He knew without an alibi,
Tomorrow's light would mourn his freedom.
Angel sat in his waiting cell, waiting for any information what would happen next. He saw the sun coming up, without seen any of the police officers. He sighed, he knew that he’d been wronged. And he couldn’t prove is innocence, he didn’t have an alibi…
Over the hills and far away,
For ten long years he'll count the days.
Over the mountains and the seas,
A prisoner's life for him there'll be.
He had seen his laywer and he told him that, without an alibi, he could get 10 years behind bars. Angel didn’t like that, but he didn’t have a choice. He would spent 10 long years in prison of something he didn’t do, all that because of…
He knew that it would cost him dear,
But yet he dare not say
Where he had been that fateful night,
A secret it must stay.
He had to fight back tears of rage.
His heart beat like a drum.
For with the wife of his best friend,
He spent his final night of freedom.
Thinking back to his final night of freedom, he sighed and closed his eyes, lost in the memories. He’d been with his one true love, who happened to be the wife of his best friend. He’d spent the night in her bed making love to her, while her husband, his best friend, was out of town for business. He hated himself for it, but somehow he could never stay away from Buffy. He loved her, she loved him… it was as simple as that.
Over the hills and far away,
He swears he will return one day.
Far from the mountains and the seas,
Back in her arms is where he'll be.
Over the hills and far away.
He couldn’t tell anyone he’d been with her, he couldn’t do that to his best friend. Although he knew of course that it was wrong. He should’ve told his friend, but who knew what he’d do to Buffy when he couldn’t protect her.
He swore that once he was out of here, he’d get back to her and tell all the world that they loved each other, because he had no doubt that she would wait for him.
Over the hills and,
Over the hills and,
Over the hills and far away.
Each night within his prison cell,
He looks out through the bars.
He reads the letters that she wrote.
One day he'll know the taste of freedom
He got a letter from her last week, and he’s read a million times already. She tells him that she misses him and wishes that things were different. He wishes that too…
Over the hills and far away,
She prays he will return one day.
As sure as the rivers reach the seas,
Back in his arms is where she'll be.
It’s all in the letter, she tells him that she’ll wait for him forever and a day. She wants to be in his arms again, the only place she feels loved and safe.
Over the hills and far away,
He swears he will return one day.
Far from the mountains and the seas,
Back in her arms is where he'll be.
Angel closes his eyes and thinks to the day when he’ll get out of jail. He hopes, no, he knows that Buffy will be there waiting for him. He will pick her up in his strong arms and kiss her until they can no longer breathe. He will take her home and spent the night in bed, just like his last free night. He will make love to her, worship like there’s no tomorrow, because you never know.
Over the hills and far away,
She prays he will return one day.
As sure as the rivers reach the seas,
Back in his arms is where she'll be.
Over the hills,
Over the hills and far away.
Over the hills,
Over the hills and far away.
The End
