Fred and Wesley ironicly enough only have 2 pivital episodes for their relationship, one right after the other, if anyone can say they didn't have enough time, it's them.

Ats 5.14: "Smile Time"

Wesley lectures Angel in discovering signals from women, but fails to notice the ones going his way from Fred. First time she tells him that her car is in the shop and before she can finish her sentence that maybe he could give her a ride, he's allready on the phone arranging for her to get a ride home by the company.

As they are researching the tape of the kiddie program, their conversation turns towards her and Knox and them being an item. Fred corrects him that it started and stopped, that she's looking for something particular and before she can correct it to be more her looking at someone, Wesley discoveres something about the tape and misses the whole thing.

When they return to the office after stopping the puppets, Wesley praises both their work and Fred tries to eye flirt with him a bit, then he suggests for them to go home and get some rest so that they can be ready for whatever would come next. Fred stops him from leaving, trying to once again signal that she has feelings for him, but deciding he's to dense to get the picture she gives up and kisses him instead, telling him that that was a signal.

Ats 5.15: "A Hole in the World"

Right when Fred and Wesley are finally together and happy, Fred gets send a mysterious artifact, a sarcoficus. Her curiousity takes over and she accidentally breathes in the dust from it, which contains the essence of an old one. She's dying.

Fred refuses to just lie still and let the thing take her over and almost collapses in the lab when Wesley tries to talk her into fighting the infestation in bed. Fred asks him to take her home which he complies to.

Fred sleeps for about an hour before she wakes up on her own, she doesn't want to sleep and asks Wesley if he can read to her. Because whatever time she has left, she wants to be awake. Wesley asks her to pick a book and calls for it. He reads the whole book for her.

He tries to sedate her, to make the pain go away, but her skin has hardened and the needle breaks. She cries in pain and he holds her hand and tries not to start weeping right there and then. She asks him if he loves her and he tells her he has always loved her and that he will stay with her no matter what.

Wesley holds Fred in his arms, she asks him to kiss her, which he does and asks him to tell her parents that it was quick and that she wasn't scared. And her last question is: "Please Wesley, why can't I stay?" and she dies in his arms, right then and there. He holds her body close to his and cries.
