How I came to love this ship is actually a funny story, because in the beginning I didn't. I guess it's because it has two strong counter pairing-posibillities that first stole my gaze. Fred fell for Gunn first and how can people really counter that, right? Because Fred/Gunn *is* an adorable pairing and for a long time I was all for them, but I *did* feel sorry for Wesley and then when Lilah came along and we got to see her and Wesley's relationship, I thought it was perfect. I was even stronger for Wesley/Lilah then I was for Fred/Gunn. And to be honest I do love both these pairings still today.

I fell for Wesley/Fred as a pairing about the same time Fred started to see that she loved Wesley. True Fred is my favourite character and I want her to be happy and maybe that was why I started re-considering them, but... I mean, I had always thought that there was grounds for Fred and Wesley hooking up, but I thought that the whole ordeal with "The Father Will Kill The Son" was the end of the chances for them and then Wesley/Lilah happened and I just kinda forgot about it.

But as I started considering them again I again looked over their history and saw just how much they made sense and I just more and more wanted them together and as I was allready cheering for them at the kiss in "Smile Time", this says something.

The first obvious thing is that Fred and Wesley is the two with the most in common, they share pretty much all interessts in the same level of energy as well.

No matter what the others in the gang said, Fred believed in Wesley. She kept defending him when noone else did, she told Wesley to stay away from them for his own sake, because she cared that he was allright and at the same time she was hurt that he hadn't shown her the faith of telling her about what he had discovered.

Wesley had given up on everbody else, he had stopped caring about what happened to the rest of them, but when it came to Fred he always helped.

Wesley stayed by her side as she was dying and made every effort to make her passing easier for her.

He never mistaked Illyria for Fred, never let her replace her. Even when Illyria offered to take on Freds form to make his last day the best she could, he refused, because it would be a lie and he couldn't accept the lie.
